Looking For An Effective Form of Fertility Medication?

Choose-Meditation-Over-Medication for Fertility with Fiona Kacz-Boulton

Meditation Is Self-Medication When Trying To Conceive

We live in a fast paced world, a world where we are taught anything is achievable if we put our mind to it.

In today’s society it is normal for both men and women to use minds to focus on pursuing the ideal career, then the ideal partner, creating a secure financial situation and then choosing to have a family (or try for a second child). Each of these milestones have required commitment, dedication, drive, determination and energy to ‘make it happen.’

However, when we try hard for something we want and do not achieve it, we are left feeling deflated, exhausted and depressed. According to various statistics around one in seven couples struggle with difficulties trying to conceive and often this seems to be the one thing we want more than anything – not because we can’t have it, not because everyone else has a family, but because of the deep yearning within – we have to have it!

In today’s “quick fix” lifestyle it is easy to opt for medication… But this is not an option if you are trying to conceive.

Ever considered using meditation as self-medication?

Integrative lifestyle strategies can help reduce the impact of stress. Techniques that involve a meditative approach can also help you to be a much happier, content person.

Mindfulness is one of the meditative techniques I have been offering my fertility clients since 2007 and as part of a Fertile Lifestyle Programme at Awakening Fertility.

Where’s the proof meditation works?

The evidence on the benefits of meditation are demonstrable by first looking at the effect stress has on us. Human beings link stress to danger.

Stress induces the flight-fight reaction in the body and in doing so produces the stress-hormones adrenalin and cortisol. Our heart rate increases, blood pressure shoots up and our muscles, preparing for danger, contract and tighten. As a result the body takes its focus away from immunity, fertility and digestion.

You can now see the damaging effects that long term stress has on the body.

On the other hand, when you are relaxed you experience a state of rest, enjoyment and physical renewal. In this state your body produces good chemicals such as serotonin and growth hormones. Our muscles are relaxed, food is better digested. The heart remains steady and blood flows freely to the body’s tissues.

This restful state is good for fertility, as the body is able to conserve the resources it needs to generate new life.

A study by researchers at Harvard Medical School discovered that, in those who practiced relaxation methods such as yoga and meditation, far more ”disease-fighting genes” were active, compared to those who practiced no form of relaxation.

A study by the University of Western Australia found that women are more likely to conceive during periods when they are relaxed rather than stressed.

In Turkey, a study also found that stress reduces sperm count and motility, suggesting relaxation can also boost male fertility.

At Awakening Fertility I offer a whole body and mind programme, using specific meditations as part of the process, aimed at empowering my clients to have an increased chance of realising faster fertility success. My bespoke Fertile Lifestyle programmes have a 80% achievement rate*

I do use meditation for relaxation,

but meditation is so much more than relaxation

The power of the mind can not be underestimated

We start with a detox of the mind, then go on to detox the body.

Here are some of the meditative techniques I use:

  • Meditation to enable you to explore deep inside yourself

We delve into both the subconscious and unconscious levels of your mind. Through this, you gain an awareness of what drives your actions and what underlies your decision-making processes, helping you to become more centred.

The aim is to change a negative mind set, which says things like:

“I will never fall pregnant”;

“Why is it so hard to fall pregnant?”;

“When will it be my turn to fall pregnant?”

  • Concentrative techniques which focus on a single point

The aim is to refocus your awareness on the chosen object of attention, which could be your breathing, or staring at a candle flame. When you notice your mind wandering, instead of pursuing these random thoughts, you simply let them go. Through this process, your ability to concentrate improves.

  • Moving meditation techniques

The specific QiYoga®: for fertility movements are designed to strengthen your intuition and help you to ignite your confidence to follow through with intuitive guidance.

My clients at Awakening Fertility do and will experience meditation skills to achieve a sense of emotional and physical calm and resilience. As our society evolves, it gets more complex; the world gets louder, faster, and more demanding. The power of meditation as a form of self-medication is now being given recognition by medical professionals, who see it as a positive complementary therapy.
