Want to create better sperm?

Supplements, superfoods and foods can improve male fertility

My articles often spring from questions my clients ask me, and this was a good one:

“What supplements can my man take to boost his fertility?”

When we’re talking about fertility, we often focus on the woman, forgetting that fertility actually involves both partners’ ability to conceive!

This article is for men who want to make sure that their health is at its optimum condition prior to conception, by using a combination of supplements, superfoods and everyday foods commonly found in the supermarket.

I am a believer in whole food nutrition, especially in this day and age when about 95% of supplements on the market are made with synthetic chemicals that the body can not even absorb – so what is the point taking them when you will only overload your body with more toxins!?

For this reason I have listed the foods herbs that make up the supplements for you to add significant amounts to your diet.

L-Arginine + L-Ornithine + L-Lysine for Fertility

This combination of amino acids (which are the building blocks for protein in the body) improves sexual Arkworld L-Arginine Pink Drink for Fertilityfunction in both men (and women).

What are the best sources?

L-Arginine in its natural form, (from real food, not chemically made in a laboratory) is best. This is why I recommend Arkworld’s delicious pink drink. It helps to boost energy and create nitric oxide for the cells. This improves cell function and leads to improved nutrient absorption.

L-Lysine helps form collagen and absorb calcium. When taking L-Argnine supplementation your body will require L-Lysine to keep your body balanced on a cellular level. (If not, you may be prone to a herpes outbreak).

The highest source of Lysine comes from red meat, then white meat, seafood, followed by seeds (best seeds for men are pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, sunflower seeds and tahini: crushed sesame seeds), nuts, eggs then pulses.

L-Ornithine helps with your body’s ability to excrete waste from your body and boost energy levels.

Foods Combining Sources of Arginine, Ornithine and Lysine

If you want to get the benefits of all three amino acids in your diet then please consume organic grass-fed ground beef, wild salmon, goat milk and goat cheddar cheese. Organic peanuts, free-range organic eggs and organic chickpeas.

N-acetyl Cysteine for Fertility

An all-rounder, this comes from the amino acid L-cysteine and is an anti-oxidant. Good for boosting general health, which is essential for fertility.

Biotin + Copper

For normal energy release and for supporting the nervous system. These supplements will also help with greying, thinning hair.

Biotin is part of the B vitamin complex, also known as vitamin H. Found in egg yolks, liver and yeast.

Be careful not to consume too much copper or it can prevent the absorption of other nutrients. If you eat organic food grown in mineral rich soil you should get enough copper in your diet.

Superfoods to boost male health

Nature’s larder is a great source for fertility-boosting superfoods. Here is a selection of some great foods to try. They may not all promise to directly improve fertility; however they are all great for general male health, which is essential for starting a family.

There are a lot of great, healthy foods out there. Here are some of the real heroes, which can (mostly) be easily obtained.

Goji Berries Goji ginger and lemon tea

Great for the immune system, stamina, libido, and fertility (and great for the skin too!), these little fruits have been used in Chinese medicine for 6,000 years. Add to lemon and ginger for a delicious tea. (Lemon will help detox the liver which will enhance fertility).

Black Thai Ginger

This can improve sex drive, as it’s such an energy booster. It’s also an excellent anti-oxidant with anti-inflammatory properties.

Mucuna

Bought in powder form, mucuna pruriens is great for fertility, boosting both libido and sperm.

Baobab Fruit

Rich in calcium, protein, potassium and vitamin C, Waitrose sell this all-round superfood in juice form! Great for general health.

Camu Camu

Another great fruit for general health (usually found in supplement form), camu camu balances mood – which is definitely needed for fertility health.

Turmeric

A store-cupboard staple, this spice is great for digestion and a great antioxidant. Always buy organic for double the amount of phytonutrients. When consumed with freshly cracked pepper it gives the body a huge boost of benefits vital for energy, fertility and keeping cancer at bay!

Shiitake Mushrooms

These protein-rich mushrooms have so much goodness in them, including potassium, niacin and B vitamins, calcium, magnesium and phosphorus. They are used nutritionally to fight viruses, lower cholesterol, and regulate blood pressure.

Dabur Shilajit Gold

Shilajit is a Himalayan herb sold as a black resin which increases sexual stamina, helps with erectile dysfunction, and is a great aphrodisiac.
