How to balance yin / yang energy when trying to conceive (TTC)

Yin and Yang When Pregnant

To fall pregnant we need to embrace as much yin energy as possible. Yin is the feminine energy, it is the energy of surrender, governed by the moon and the water element.  However, when we have too much yin in our body we feel very heavy, slow, even lethargic.

When the yin-yang polarities are balanced it will give you the motivation you need to get up every hour to get the blood moving through your body – which is essential when you are pregnant.

If you are finding it difficult to get off the sofa or to even drag yourself away from your desk every hour to walk and gently stretch then you need to add a bit more yang energy (fire energy) to give you the motivation and strength to do so.

Yang energy comes in short, sharp bursts, e.g. adrenaline rushes. During your pregnancy it is unsafe to be yang dominant but it can make pregnancy feel really tough if you are yin dominant.

What is the solution to balancing yin and yang energies?

The solution lies in balancing your external environment with your internal and vice-verser.
You can do this through diet and through exercise.

So, if it is hot outside you want to cool down with cooling foods.

This meditation is called Embracing Femininity in Your Fertility Garden. I have chosen this meditation as an example of the 100+ meditations I have on my Fertile Lifestyle Course to support clients to fall pregnant and stay pregnant.

Why is embracing femininity important?

By you embracing your femininity, you are telling your body ‘it is safe to turn fertility back on.’

You see, when you are stressed you enter into your ‘Fight or Flight’ Mode (activating your sympathetic nervous system) which is a ‘Yang’ response (in the Five Elements of Traditional Chinese Medicine). Yang is masculine. This stress response state turns fertility off.

By you embracing your feminine energy, you activate the ‘Yin’ response (activating your parasympathetic nervous system) which is when your body is able to rejuvenate, it allows the blood to return from the extremities back to your vital organs, including your reproductive system.

In this state fertility gets turned back on.

That being said, despite the ‘airy fairy’ name of this meditation, there is a lot of science behind the workings of it (as well as all my other meditations), which is why they work.

I recommend listening to meditations daily to help prepare your mind and your body.

How to Increase the Feel Good Hormone Serotonin When Trying to Conceive

Trying to conceive with all the ups and downs you can endure along the way can be a painful and isolating struggle.

Both stress and depression negatively impact your fertility because they create hormone imbalances.

It is like a fast-acting downward spiral that only seems to be made worse when people around you keep announcing their ‘happy news’ that they are pregnant, or; when people keep saying “just don’t worry about it and it will happen,” or; “just relax and be happy.”

These kinds of comments only take your feelings of sadness to a state of heightened anger!

 

If you are not careful and allow yourself to sink into a state of depression or become riddled with stress, it will further reduce your chances of fertility and parenthood success – creating such a vicious cycle of heartache.

In a desperate attempt to cope, you read about the benefits of meditation. You practice your fertility meditation only to find your mind uncontrollablly chanting the mantras:

“It is so unfair; why me? When will it be my turn? Will I ever have this baby?”

 

You are tempted to find a “quick fix” and scroll through pages of advice splashed across your computer and smart phone – all thanks to the new man you spend the majority of your time with: Mr Google.

 

… But he only makes you feel more confused and distraught…

 

The only quick fix you can find seems to be anti-depressant mood enhances, such as SSRI’s (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) which are not ideal because less that 50% of people find they work. Additionally, you want to be as healthy as possible whilst trying to conceive. Furthermore you want to optimize your egg health and don’t want to self-diagnose or self self-medicate.

  4. Serotonin

In a nutshell, there is one thing that helps raise all four of these feel good hormones and that is “passionate sex.”

 

In addition to lusty love-making I am going to start from the bottom of the list and work my way up over a series of articles to help you maximize your mood-enhancing repertoire from other lifestyle choices.

What is serotonin and why is it good for fertility?

Serotonin is a feel good neurotransmitter it literally helps you to maintain a positive mood. Fertility is triggered by joy, for this reason you want to embrace the amount of serotonin synthetized in your body and brain.

 

Serotonin Fact ♯1

It’s believed that low serotonin levels are the main contributing factor responsible for the current world-wide depression epidemic.

 

Serotonin Boosting Foods

Contrary to ‘what seems logical’ foods that contain serotonin do not raise serotonin levels when ingested.

Serotonin Foods

For example; bananas, pineapple, kiwi fruits and tomatoes contain serotonin but eating them does not directly raise your serotonin levels because they do not cross the blood-brain barrier.

Tryptophan Foods

The pre-cursor to Serotonin is an amino acid called tryptophan but again, eating foods high in tryptophan (such as eggs, fish, chicken, turkey, chickpeas, etc.) does not directly raise your serotonin levels either. Again, this is because they do not cross the blood-brain barrier.

 

When protein and carbohydrates are eaten together not only can your gut not digest it (it can only digest one at a time) but your brain can not get the benefits of tryptophan either.

 

During her research at MIT, Dr. Judith J. Wurtman, co-author of The Serotonin Power Diet, Wurtman discovered that eating carbohdyrates separately from proteins helps the brain synthesize serotonin. Furthermore, According to Kathleen DesMaisons, Ph.D., author of Potatoes Not Prozac, the potato changes your brain chemistry. She says, “The potato creates an insulin response that affects the movement of the amino acid tryptophan from your blood into your brain. Your body uses tryptophan to make serotonin, the brain chemical that makes you feel mellow and happy. Serotonin also helps you to “just say no” to sweets and other things by putting the brakes on your impulsivity.”

 

Craving sweets and sugary carbohydrates is the first sign that your dopamine levels have dropped and for women this is commonly triggered by stress.

 

What is the solution?

These aformentioned doctors believe eating a stand-alone potato can help. It is best to top your potato with turmeric or fermented foods such as kimchi or raw sour kraut as well as good quality virgin cold-pressed organic olive oil. Each one of these ingredients can help increase your serotonin levels.

 

Other organic foods for boosting serotonin whilst trying to conceive:

  1. Dark chocolate (Caco nibs)
  2. Sweet potatoes
  3. Root vegetables
  4. Fruit
  5. Short grain brown rice
  6. Oatmeal (gluten free oats) – did you know all oats are gluten free and what makes them ‘glutenous’ is the fact they are rolled in flour whilst being processed.

How to choose the right healing course?

  • Get to know the teacher over the phone via a chat, a cup of tea or attend some of their sessions – it is important you get along with your healing course teacher.
  • Establish a connection with the teacher so you can develop your skills faster.
  • Find a teacher who is healthy and does not have a big ego.
  • Find a course that is comprehensive and teaches you the things you are interested in. Even if the course teaches you more than you want to use, it is better to have optionality to grow and develop your skills over time than doing a course without much depth.

Trying to conceive is definitely one of the most stressful situations in today’s modern 21st century world.

With time being of the essence and stress being the worst thing for destroying egg health, womb health and sperm health, finding stress magagement tools and techniques that work is paramount!

One of the best combatters of stress is meditation

But what if you dont have time to meditate?

Sages say “if you dont have time to meditate then meditate for an hour!”

Honestly, meditation is that important that modern day experts say “if you have not got time to meditate, you do not have a life.”

However, as a meditation teacher since 2003, I want to share some meditation wisdom with you.

Taking a fertility break over holiday festive season when TTC

How to take an effective fertility break and enjoy the holiday festive season when trying to conceive

You know, it is “okay” to take a break and in fact a break can re-boot your energy and your focus!

‘Tis the season to be jolly and it is okay to have a break

 

Give yourself permission to take some time away from your fertility journey and take an effective break

 

Before you do, ask what it is you are craving or feel deprived of so you know what it is you are truly desiring and you can give it to yourself! For example, do you want to go on holiday and enjoy some bread, or some alcohol or latte’s or chocolate?

 

Are you just wanting to have fun and not have to say “no” to anything offered to you?

 

Are you sick and tired of not eating and drinking what all your friends are enjoying and just want to join in for a change or party during the festive season or your birthday?

 

Whatever your reason, get clear so as you consume the alcohol or processed foods, caffeinated drinks etc. (that are not fertility-friendly) that you love consuming these things and that you wont feel guilty doing so.

Never feel guilty

Did you know guilt is a man-made emotion? It does not exist naturally. There is no word in Tibet as “guilt” so please erase it from your vocabulary and your mind-set. There is never a time or a need to feel guilty – it is simply a self-sabotage construct of your ego-mind. If feelings of guilt arise, sigh it out; let it go. You choose your reality and you can choose not to disempower yourself.

 

Taking an effective break means enjoying every single moment and not feeling guilty in the process.

 

Taking a proper break

Taking a proper break means you create a fun-filled experience that enriches your life and the levels of joy you experience

During your chosen break time, invest every moment into a state of joy. This means, enjoy each mouthful you swallow or each day when you don’t do your fertility exercises or meditate for fertility.

 

Instead, meditate on health and happiness, peace or stillness.

 

Tell yourself

  • “I am consuming this (food/drink) because it brings me so much joy!!”
  • “I am enjoying not exercising and sleeping in because it brings me so much joy!”

 

If you choose to have a fertility break then have one 100%!

 

If you only half-heartedly take a break you will feel you wasted time by stepping off the optimal path. If you whole-heartedly enjoy your break it will make you so happy and this happiness is the biggest catalyst for fertility success!

 

If you can do this, then taking a break is your best option! (Especially if you opt to do so over the festive season/holiday season).

 

If not, then perhaps it is time to consider:

  1. Doing a cleanse
  2. Upgrading your meditations
  3. Practicing mindfulness in your daily life; your daily comings and goings

 

 

Doing a fertility cleanse

Now that you have asked yourself some important questions, you may have concluded you would like to do a cleanse. Whether you decide to do a cleanse instead of taking a break or; after you have taken a break, it does not matter – the only thing that matters is that you are now choosing to do a cleanse.

 

Cleanses are a pro-active step forward in the right direction along your fertility path. Cleanses help your body to heal. It is best to choose a cleanse that fits into your daily lifestyle. If you are working it will be too difficult to do a week+ cleanse because you wont be able to function well at work.

 

Cleanses are like operations and you need to treat yourself with care, extra rest and less physical demands to prevent yourself blacking out or passing out.

The MSM Maintenance Cleanse

Building up to a daily dose of 4 tablespoons of MSM (organic sulphur) mixed in with vitamin C (bio-available vitamin C) and fertility honey. (All these ingredients are available in my shop). Have two in the morning and two 12 hours later

Juicing 4 – 5 fresh wheat grass shots a day and juicing:

 

  • C – Coriander (cilantro) – handful
  • C – Carrot – half a carrot
  • A – Apple – whole apple
  • B – Beetroot – whole, raw
  • A – Apple – another whole apple
  • L – Lemon – unwaxed, juice with skin on
  • A – Apple – third one per drink
  • P – Parsley – handful

 

For a minimum of three days consume just these organic juices, no water and chew your juices. Ideally you want to do this cleanse for seven days but five will also be highly beneficial.

 

 

Castor Oil Pack Cleanse

Castor Oil is a medicinal oil used to encourage blood flow to the fallopian tubes, uterus and liver.

 

  • Dissolves uterine fibroids
  • Balances hormones and getting rid of excess hormones
  • Helps diminish non-cancerous ovarian cysts
  • Helps dissolve scar tissue
  • Frees congestion in the fallopian tubes
  • Increases oxygenated blood and improved circulation to the whole of the reproductive system

 

Don’t use if menstruating (or pregnant) or when it’s a full moon

 

You will need the following which are all available in my shop:

  • Castor Oil
  • Organic Hemp or Cotton Cloth
  • Storage container (jar)
  • Plastic to cover
  • Hot water bottle

 

Method:

  1. Saturate the castor oil on cloth, but not dripping with oil
  2. Can re-use the pack
  3. Lay on towel on your back
  4. Fold oiled cloth in 3rds
  5. Place on lower abdomen
  6. Then place plastic covering, (towel optional) and hot water bottle on lower abdomen with hot water bottle covering liver (above right hip)
  7. Wait for 30 mins

 

Minimum of 6 to be beneficial.
